Responsibilities
Own SimpliSafe’s RF performance across products. Optimizing performance for WiFi, BLE, Radar, Proprietary SubG protocols, Wi-SUN, LoRa, etc
Build SimpliSafe’s RF testing capabilities including test plans and equipment selection
Manage ODMs and third-party labs in the design and testing products and antennas
Characterize and compare different wireless chipsets and drive selection
Characterize and compare antenna performances and drive selection
Review PRDs, and author RF technical requirements to meet product requirements
Root causing RF field related issues
Work with Electrical Engineers to optimize board layouts for RF and immunity
Work with Mechanical Engineers to optimize design and mechanical structure for RF
Evaluate and recommend new radio technologies and chipset for SimpliSafe products and roadmap
Qualification
Required
Deep expertise in: Radio and front-end design and validation in 400MHz to 70GHz ISM bands
Encoding methods and modulation schemes such as OFDM, Frequency hopping, QAM, GFSK, UWB, convolution encoding, STBC
RF emission requirements and testing for FCC, ETSI, Radio and Emission qualifications
Debugging RF issues. Setting up, running and evaluating of TIS, TRP, BER, Return Loss, Desense, radiation patterns, etc
RF simulation tools like CST or HFSS
Bachelor's or Master's degree in RF/Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
5+ years of progressive experience in RF design, development, and validation, with a proven track record of bringing products to market
Proficient with the operation of RF instruments such as signal generator, vector network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, power meter, IQxel, etc
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with an ability to tackle complex, ambiguous problems
Preferred
Familiarity with one more common MAC Layer protocols. WiFi, BLE, Zigbee, Z-wave etc or be willing to learn and build expertise in this area
Familiarity with MAC level protocol analyzers
Familiarity with Cellular communications
C or python coding experience
Familiarity with MATLAB
