Sr. Manager, Human Resources-US Education
GIA, established in 1931, is the world's foremost authority on gems and jewelry, providing education and research services. They are seeking a Senior Manager, Human Resources to align people strategies with organizational goals, enhance employee experience, and drive cultural change within the organization.
Responsibilities
Partner with senior leaders to translate business goals into actionable people strategies
Lead workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational design initiatives
Anticipate business shifts and proactively recommend workforce solutions
Oversee resolution of complex and sensitive employee relations issues
Proactively identify and mitigate risk through coaching, early intervention, and policy guidance
Provide counsel to leaders on workplace issues and cultural alignment
Serve as a change leader for organizational initiatives
Develop and implement change strategies and coach leaders to lead effectively
Strengthen people leadership skills across the organization
Use people data and analytics to identify trends and inform strategy
Translate insights into narratives that influence leadership decisions
Champion GIA’s values and foster a culture of inclusion, engagement, and well-being
Influence design and delivery of enterprise HR programs
Lead or support projects focused on continuous improvement of HR practices and policies
Perform other responsibilities as assigned to advance organizational and HR goals
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience demonstrating deep knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including compensation, organizational effectiveness, employee relations, performance management, diversity and inclusion, and U.S. employment law
8+ years of HR business partner or HR management experience, preferably within a mid‑sized, geographically distributed organization
Prior experience supporting or partnering with a U.S.-based or multinational organization with U.S. operations
Demonstrated success leading organizational change, managing complex and sensitive employee relations matters, and navigating matrixed or mission‑driven environments
Proven ability to coach and influence senior leaders, build trust, and drive strategic people initiatives across multiple levels of the organization
Experience in workforce planning, succession planning, talent strategy, and organizational design
Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, PHR-CA, SPHR-CA, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) strongly preferred
Strategic HR Leadership: Expertise in aligning people strategies with organizational objectives, workforce planning, and organizational design
Employee Relations Expertise: Skilled in resolving complex employee relations matters and mitigating risk through proactive measures
Change Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives and build leadership capability to sustain transformation
Data-Driven Decision-Making: Ability to interpret people analytics and influence senior leaders through insights
Communication & Influence: Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills with executive presence
Enterprise Thinking: Capable of balancing local needs with global priorities in a matrixed organization
Technology Proficiency: Experience with HCM systems (Workday preferred), analytics dashboards, and virtual collaboration tools
Preferred
Master's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business, or a related discipline; or senior-level HR certification (SPHR, SHRM‑SCP)
Significant experience working within a higher‑education or academic environment (e.g., universities, research institutions, or academic medical centers), with a strong understanding of the unique cultural and operational dynamics of academic organizations highly preferred
Exposure to global HR practices, cross‑functional initiatives, and environments with international employees or stakeholders
Strong analytical and consultative skills, with the ability to translate organizational needs into actionable people strategies
