Mechnical Engineer (R&D Engineer 2/3)
Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. They are seeking a Mechanical Engineer (R&D Engineer 2 or 3) to provide mechanical design and systems engineering support for the DARHT accelerators, with responsibilities including defining and executing research experiments and facility modifications, as well as leading multi-disciplinary teams.
Security
Responsibilities
Work as part of multi-disciplinary teams to define and execute DARHT research experiments, facility modifications, and updates. Conduct necessary analysis and modelling to define the system requirements and decompose them into subsystem and component level requirements. Define and manage system and sub-system interfaces and necessary documentation (technical data package). Work with modelling and drafting support to detail the design. Interface with procurement, sub-contractors, suppliers, and internal fabrication shops to secure hardware. Define and perform testing required to demonstrate requirement compliance. Document and communicate the results of the testing
Contribute to proposal, planning, execution, and publication of research and development projects relating to the DARHT accelerator and its mission
Use engineering principles and analysis to assist in defining maintenance requirements involving corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance and the tracking and trending of system performance
Define and maintain technical baseline criteria and documents in support of facility configuration management
Utilize system knowledge, engineering principles, and analysis techniques to support DARHT troubleshooting, safety analyses, and hazards evaluations
