The State of South Dakota is seeking an Aquatic Habitat and Access Intern for the summer session. This internship involves working with the aquatic habitat and access staff to develop, maintain, and improve public fishing access areas, providing hands-on experience in various related tasks.

Responsibilities

Help develop, maintain, and improve aquatic habitat and access for public fishing access areas
Assist with GIS mapping, noxious weed control, shoreline restoration planting, and maintenance of boating and shoreline fishing access
Perform small boat ramp work

Required

APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Candidates must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Candidate must be able to operate a UTV, 4-wheel drive pickup and trailer, as well as power tools and equipment
Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and work on shoreline terrain
Must have a valid driver's license
Must be able to pass SD Commercial Applicators licensing through DANR
Must be able to pass ATV/UTV safety courses provided
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program

Preferred

Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
