Intern - Habitat Management (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is seeking a Habitat Management Intern for the summer session to provide technical assistance in developing and maintaining wildlife habitats. The intern will learn key habitat management techniques and may take on additional responsibilities based on their skills, with opportunities for extensive travel and outdoor work.

Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance to habitat program staff in Region 1 to aid in developing, improving and maintaining habitat for the enhancement of wildlife species and increased hunter and recreation opportunities on state-owned and managed property
Learn key habitat management techniques through 'classroom-style' seminars as well as on the ground activities
Take on additional responsibility as project lead based on intern's abilities and skills
Travel extensively across the western half of the state, occasionally with overnight stays
Perform strenuous physical labor and work outdoors in extreme and variable weather conditions
Obtain a SD Commercial Applicator's License in categories G, 1A, 7 and 12 upon employment
Receive training in the safe use of ATV/UTVs
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
A valid driver's license is required
Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor and be willing to work outdoors in extreme and variable weather conditions
Upon employment, intern must obtain a SD Commercial Applicator's License in categories G, 1A, 7 and 12
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
