Research Assistant I - WAREHAM WASTEWATER PROJECT (Foreman Lab)

Marine Biological Laboratory is seeking a full-time Research Assistant I to assist with research on an innovative denitrifying bioreactor for wastewater treatment. The role involves collecting and analyzing samples from bioreactors to determine the efficacy of wastewater treatment processes.

Responsibilities

Collecting samples from bioreactors at the Wareham Pollution Control Facility
Analyzing those samples at the Marine Biological Laboratory to determine the efficacy of the treatment

Qualification

Biogeochemical analysesWastewater treatment processesExcel proficiencyBachelor's degree in scienceField work preparationComfort in wastewater environment

Required

Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, geoscience or environmental science or engineering and relevant field and research experience
Experience with biogeochemical analyses including nutrient (e.g. ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, total dissolved nitrogen) and elemental analysis (e.g. dissolved and particulate carbon) using of spectrophotometers and automated analyzers
Proficiency in using Excel for data entry and processing (graphing, simple statistics)
Comfortable in a wastewater treatment environment
Willing to help with preparations for field work such as organizing, cleaning and maintaining gear
Valid driver's license
Comfortable driving a pickup truck or van
Willingness to work in the field during inclement weather
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Ability to swim

Preferred

Experience evaluating basic wastewater treatment processes (e.g. BOD, coliform counts, etc.)
