Intern - Historic Preservation (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is offering a Historic Preservation Intern position for the summer session. The intern will engage in historic preservation activities including updating survey material, conducting site surveys, and assisting with nominations for the National Register of Historic Places.

Plan and/or conduct historic site survey(s)
Assist in preparing nomination for a historic property to the National Register of Historic Places
Assist the office with holding a youth archaeology camp
Handle other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Valid driver's license is required
excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience with a personal computer and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access databases
Preferred
Coursework in American Indian Studies, Great Plains history, historic preservation theory & practices or research areas are desired
Working experience in museums, art galleries, especially American Indian art galleries, and any American Indian cultural or tribal educational institutions is desired
preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions
