Construction Manager/Mechanical Engineer Plumbing

They are seeking a full-time Construction Manager/Mechanical Engineer Plumbing to oversee the construction of a new Long-Term Spinal Cord Injury unit at the Dallas VA Medical Center, ensuring compliance with construction standards and managing project schedules.

Responsibilities
Conducts portions of daily inspections of site work, building construction work; documents discrepancies, code violations, improper materials, or techniques in the application of materials, substandard or poor-quality workmanship; monitors schedules on various aspects of ongoing daily activities to identify and mitigate project slippage and coordinate project phasing
Maintain accurate and complete files relating to the Construction Management (CM) services on the project that the Government may inspect at any time
Reviews contractor's submittals and RFIs; maintains accurate and complete job files including as-built drawings and specifications; identifies progress delays and recommends appropriate corrective measures to the lead engineer toward mitigating delays and maintaining the progress schedule
Submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports indicating work completed, work in progress with estimated completion dates, work scheduled and outstanding work
Utilize computerized management system applications, processing requests for information, preparing draft contract modification documents for the senior resident engineer’s use, etc.; maintaining an inventory of materials, supplies and equipment and monitoring the quantity of materials used in the general administration and conduct of office operations
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of all aspects of commercial hospital mechanical construction including but not limited to underground mechanical installation, medical gas systems, domestic water systems, chilled water systems, and steam systems
Knowledge and design experience of plumbing systems (equipment sizing, water heating systems, chilled water systems), low Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, testing and balancing, operations, piping, sheet metal duct systems, and control systems including direct digital controls
Ability to provide cost estimates and take-offs for the mechanical contract modifications
Ability to determine compliance of workmanship, materials, equipment and installed work with contract requirements and industry standards
Working knowledge and understanding of building, safety, and environmental codes
Working knowledge of environmental, civil, safety, architectural and structural fields
Knowledge of governmental contracting procedures, principles, guidelines and public law
The Construction Manager/Mechanical Engineer Plumbing (CM/MP) shall be able to quickly understand and master the requirements of the local state and federal jurisdictions and the requirements of each in relation to this project
Experience in the resolution of unforeseen site and design conditions/problems and propose cost effective technical solutions
Experience conducting inspections and inventories of such structures to identify and note deficiencies, problems, or the general physical condition of such structures
Must have six (6) years of experience practicing mechanical engineering
Must have six (6) years of experience inspecting mechanical construction
The CM/MP must possess communication, language, and software skills with the ability to utilize a variety of software programs to monitor, produce, and update work products by applying knowledge of computer literacy
Experience reviewing design and construction plans against existing site conditions
The CM-MP shall be a licensed professional with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with Specialization in Plumbing from an accredited institution of higher learning
The individual shall have a minimum of six (6) years of experience in both design and construction of plumbing & water systems
Preferred
Additional consideration will be given to a Construction Manager - Senior Mechanical Engineer who possesses a current professional engineering license (PE) registration and maintenance of the same throughout tenure
