KOTV Broadcast Engineer

Responsibilities

Install, configure, and maintain broadcast equipment, including transmitters, receivers, routers, video servers, audio processors, and other related hardware
Perform regular preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance of all broadcast systems
Troubleshoot and repair equipment malfunctions quickly to minimize downtime
Monitor the quality and reliability of broadcast signals, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations and company standards
Coordinate with the production team to set up and operate equipment for live broadcasts, including remote broadcasts
Manage the technical setup and operation of studio and control room equipment
Provide technical support to production and operations staff, addressing any issues related to audio, video, and signal transmission
Collaborate with IT to ensure the seamless integration of broadcast and IT systems
Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, maintenance schedules, and technical documentation
Ensure all broadcast equipment complies with industry standards and regulatory requirements
Lead and participate in technical projects, such as system upgrades, new installations, and facility expansions
Work with company departments, vendors and contractors to procure and install new equipment
Monitor tower structures in accordance with FAA regulations and accurately maintain broadcast equipment
Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business

Required

Associate Science Degree in electronics, military training, or trade school certificate preferred. Related experience will be evaluated and may be substituted as years of education
3+ years of experience in broadcast engineering or a similar role preferred
Ability to climb a 20-foot ladder and perform work at various heights
Ability to practice safe conduct at various heights
Strong knowledge of broadcast systems, including RF technology, digital video and audio standards, and IP-based broadcast solutions as well as general knowledge of AC/DC, analog, and digital electronics and high-power amplifiers, video and audio storage systems
Competent in the use of electronic test equipment, i.e., wave form monitors, vectroscopes, oscilloscopes, distortion analyzers, digital volt meters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc
Proficiency in using broadcast-related software and tools
Competent with hand tools, soldering equipment, and small power tools
Possess mathematical ability to perform basic calculations, critical thinking, problem solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Knowledge of FCC regulations and industry standards
Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor locations, transmitter sites, confined studio spaces, inclement weather, and noisy locations
Ability to work on occasion for extended periods of time without a scheduled break
Willingness to travel to remote broadcast locations as needed
Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oklahoma driver's license and have a driving record acceptable to the company
Ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned
Capable of handling the physical and mental requirements including: ability to verbally communicate in English, ability to read computer monitor information (words and data), ability to hear detailed spoken word, ability to remain sedentary and to travel to work location, ability to perform manual dexterity tasks with hands, fingers, ability to analyze data, concentrate, reason, and write, ability to perform under emotional stress, ability to lift 50 pounds unaided, ability to work rotating shifts and be on 24-hour call
