Invasive Species Control Specialist (Environmental Specialist 2)(Internal Only)
NEOGOV is part of the Washington State Department of Ecology, dedicated to protecting and enhancing Washington’s environment. They are hiring an Invasive Species Control Specialist to conduct reviews of invasive species management projects, monitor and control invasive species, and assist in scientific studies related to environmental impacts and control methods.

Responsibilities
Plan and implement routine European green crab trapping efforts including scheduling actions, maintaining equipment and supplies, leading crews out in the field consisting of staff, AmeriCorps members, and volunteers, managing data collection and processing, and disposing of old bait and crabs
Plan and implement routine invasive plant control efforts in wetlands and uplands, including scheduling and implementing actions, maintaining, repairing and calibrating hand tools and spray equipment, managing pesticides safely and legally, collecting and managing data on species and effort
Assist in conducting project meetings, partner and stakeholder engagement, and public outreach
Ensure projects are in compliance with requirements from WDFW, NOAA and other funding entities
Assist in recruiting, training and/or coordinating AmeriCorps members, student interns, volunteers and community members in routine habitat stewardship and research actions
Under general supervision, respond to inquiries regarding the scientific background and technical implementation of invasive species control and resource management projects at the Reserve
Develop scientific studies and resource management plans for Padilla Bay Reserve invasive species control and other natural resource research projects
Perform surveys, conduct tests, and gather data to study the effects of invasive species on their habitats, effects of control efforts on invasive and native species, and effects of restoration and management actions on coastal species and habitat health
Qualification
Required
Five years of experience and/or education as described below:
Experience professional level experience in environmental analysis or control or environmental planning
Education involving a major study in environmental, physical, or one of the natural sciences, environmental planning or other allied field
Examples of how to qualify: 5 years of experience
4 years of experience AND 30-59 semester or 45-89 quarter college credits
3 years of experience AND 60-89 semester or 90-134 quarter college credits (Associate's degree)
2 years of experience AND 90-119 semester or 135-179 quarter college credits
1 year of experience AND a Bachelor's degree
A Master's degree or above
Preferred
Professional experience managing natural resources and conducting field research related to invasive species, estuarine and upland ecology, habitat restoration, and/or another relevant biological or ecological field
