Manager, Civil Engineering

LA28 is the independent organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, aiming to deliver an unparalleled experience for athletes and fans. The Manager, Civil Engineering will oversee the design and management of temporary water infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet industry standards and are delivered on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

Assist in the management of civil engineering technical design and development, focused on water infrastructure processes and design, including internal and external engineers and consultants
Assist in the analysis of existing infrastructure systems and apply civil engineering principles to the design of temporary overlay infrastructure
Collaborate with architects and other engineers to integrate Civil components and Hydraulic principles into the overall venue designs
Prepare and oversee the temporary water infrastructure venue design books and technical publications. Advance engineering designs through increasing levels of detail from concept through construction drawings
Apply technical engineering design guides and principles and adapt IOC requirements to local practices
Oversee an installation team during operations and maintenance during the event period to ensure proper delivery of venue infrastructure
Ensure compliance within workstream to Health & Safety regulations
Close collaboration with Accessibility, Transportation, Seating and other infrastructure functional areas to integrate needs into overall design
Coordinate internal and external stakeholders’ requirements to develop cost effective and streamlined engineering solutions to meet Games-time requirements for each venue
Support the development of integrated workplans and schedules with the infrastructure master schedule, event operations planning, and central program management
Partner with Finance and Procurement teams to prepare costs, elevate delivery and procurement risks, and identify savings opportunities
Support other cross-functional initiatives, including Permitting, Risk Management, Event Operations, and Sustainability
Engage stakeholders throughout the design and delivery periods including leading coordination with the Games Water Council

Required

5 or more years of experience in civil engineering roles, with 1 to 3 years in supervisory positions
Ability to analyze existing water systems and design supplemental temporary equipment
Advanced knowledge of engineering and collaboration tools and software (Revit, Auto-CAD, etc.)
Experience with key industry codes and practices, including ASCE, CPC, and CBC
Knowledge with fundamental project management concepts (scope, schedule, budget)
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Detail oriented with excellent command of productivity and collaboration tools (Office360, SharePoint, Smartsheet, Autodesk Construction Cloud etc.)
Present information concisely to a wide audience of executive leadership, external contractors and advisors, and governmental agencies
Ability to work within a complex and demanding environment with many stakeholders while maintaining strong relationships
Ability to problem-solve and negotiate with stakeholders to get the best outcomes
Ability to work independently to resolve issues
Some travel as needed to venues and partner offices

Preferred

Experience with temporary infrastructure and overlay, or equivalent experience with major infrastructure capital programs. Preferred experience with local or major sporting events (Olympics & Paralympic Games, World Cup, etc.)
Professional Civil Engineer's license in the state of California
Project Management and Construction certifications
Project Management and Construction experience in the United States and California markets
