Responsibilities

Define, design, conduct, and implement specific research and monitoring activities, including field investigations, data collection, laboratory analyses, data analyses, and report preparation
Select ecological systems, set parameters to study
Develop and define record keeping and reporting procedures
Train and supervises EGC research staff and interns
Develop and maintain working relationships with other institutions, professional research organizations, laboratories, and agencies
Consult with Reserve, state, Tribal, and national agency management to determine needs, goals, and objectives; revises research program as required
Provide consultative service to researchers and resource managers. Facilitate network(s) of scientists and practitioners to define research projects, coordinate, collaborate, and apply research work to resource management
Prepare reports, scientific publications, proposals, and technical publications; prepare and presents papers and posters for scientific and technical meetings, resource managers, coastal decision makers, and non-technical audiences
Coordinate with all sectors of PBNERR to ensure collaborative integration, mutual benefit, and careful use of shared resources and staffing effort
Contribute to the maintenance and organization of Reserve scientific equipment, laboratory, and other monitoring programs

Required

Eight years of experience and/or education as described below:
Experience: professional research work experience in marine science, coastal ecology, oceanography, or other life or marine science related field
Experience must include the following:
Ability to design, lead, and manage estuarine research and monitoring projects from inception through reporting
Ability to prepare research proposals for outside funding and publish results in scientific literature
Ability to foster and conduct collaborative and user-driven research
Experience leading and conducting research on early life stage biology of marine crustaceans
Experience with rearing larval crustaceans
Experience with taxonomic identification of marine plankton
Education: involving with a major study in a natural science

Preferred

Current advanced open water SCUBA certification
