Intern - Highway Patrol (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is offering a summer internship opportunity with the Highway Patrol. The Highway Patrol Intern will shadow State Troopers, assist with various law enforcement activities, and support administrative tasks at the district office.

Responsibilities
Enforce traffic laws
Assist crash reconstructionist while mapping a crash scene
Assist with sobriety and safety checks
Attend safety talks with troopers
Shadow the specialty units such as the recons, SWAT, Mobile Force, Drone Operators, K9 handlers and Task Force Troopers
Assist the district office with administrative duties such as supply inventory and records keeping
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
