Dewberry is a leading professional services firm with a national Transportation Service Line, seeking a Senior Rail Project Engineer to enhance their Transit and Freight Rail Practice. The role involves supporting design teams with railroad principles, preparing plans and reports, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards.

Responsibilities

Applies broad knowledge of railroad principles and practices to support design teams and junior engineers

Provides a resource of railroad operational, and maintenance practices to design teams

Works on projects of small size or portions of larger projects

Supports preparation of written plans, reports and provides overall qc review of contract documents for compliance with AREMA, FTA, FRA requirements

Required

BS degree in Civil Engineering

Minimum of 10 years of civil and rail design experience

Knowledgeable of AREMA track design standards

Understanding of signal system, OCS and traction power requirements

Prior experience with local transportation agencies and clients such as MTA, LIRR, Metro North, NJ Transit, MBTA, Amtrak and Freight railroads

PE License is required

Strong technical background in track design and maintenance

Competence preparing rail and rail-related civil designs, including development of horizontal and vertical alignments

Understanding of rail outage impacts and maintenance requirements for track and rail bridge structures

Experience in transportation engineering, including inspection and/or design for freight rail or passenger transit facilities

Experience in vertical and horizontal rail alignments

Experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation

Experience in grade crossings

Experience in grading/drainage design

Experience in rail facilities design

Excellent oral and written communications skills

Strong leadership talents and demonstrated success supervising people

Preferred

Local experience is highly preferred

A willingness to engage in business development activities in order to meet growth objectives
