Intern - Habitat (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is seeking a Habitat Intern for the summer session to work alongside Conservation Technicians and Resource Biologists. The intern will engage in projects focused on developing and improving wildlife habitats while learning various land management techniques.

Responsibilities
Work along side Conservation Technicians, Foreman and Resource Biologists
Learn and be engaged in projects to develop, maintain and improve wildlife habitat
Learn different grassland management techniques
Identify important native plant species as well as noxious weeds
Learn the tree planting process
Understand various wildlife food plot types
Learn grassland reconstruction techniques
Collect information in a work portfolio
Develop their own habitat management plan for a Game Production Area
Present their management plan in an open group discussion
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
