Cryogenics Engineer

Responsibilities

Support existing programs through day-to-day operations of various systems and experiments
Supply high-quality ideas and insights on both existing and future problems, leading to novel solutions applicable to APL's mission and sponsor needs
Perform creative, independent research characterizing thermal, magnetic, and electrical properties of materials in dry 1K, 4K and dilution refrigerator systems
Collaborate with a team of physicists, electrical engineers, materials scientists, and fabrication technicians to design experiments, process data, and present findings
Be encouraged to fill leadership roles on existing projects, and to propose new research directions for APL's sponsors

Required

Possess a Bachelor's Degree or higher in physics, engineering or a closely related field (e.g., materials science, applied physics)
Have 1+ year experience with cryogenic systems or in characterizing materials or systems at cryogenic temperatures
Have a strong desire to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, applied science environment
Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and need to meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship

Preferred

Have a Master's degree or higher in engineering, physics, or a closely related field
Have experience measuring thermal and electrical properties of materials at cryogenic temperatures
Have experience designing and troubleshooting experimental setups in cryogenic systems
Have extensive experience operating millikelvin test systems
Have an active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance
