Intern - Park Management (Summer)

The State of South Dakota is seeking an Intern for Park Management during the summer session. This role involves scheduling and directing staff, managing public relations, overseeing permit sales, and assisting with park operations and projects.

Responsibilities

Scheduling, directing, and working with volunteer, full time, and seasonal staff in all aspects of the operations of a State Park or Recreation Area
Public relations
Permit sales
Fee collection
Point of sales and reservation systems
Data collection for end of month reports
Directing and assisting the park naturalists in programming, historical research, and implementation of historical information for interpretive and educational purposes
Assist in landscaping projects
Maintenance of equipment and facilities
Facility sanitation
Administrative duties
Choose a project to be completed within the summer that will promote efficiency in one area of park operations

Required

Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Position will require applicant to attain a Commercial Pesticide Applicators License with additional endorsements as needed within 2 weeks of employment

Preferred

Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
Basic familiarity with power equipment and operation of tractors, mowers, UTV's, power tools, chain saws, and pulling trailers
Coursework in accounting, business, outdoor interpretation, forestry, turf management, conservation planning, or park management
Experience in janitorial, public relations, customer service, point of sale systems, and Microsoft office
