Electric Utility Systems Designer
NEOGOV is looking for an Electric Utility Systems Designer for the City of Colton Electric Department. This role involves overseeing engineering work related to the planning, design, and construction of electrical distribution systems, as well as supervising lower-level staff and ensuring quality assurance in the department's operations.

Responsibilities
Supervise, distribute, oversee, review and perform the engineering work associated with the planning, design and installation of electric utility distribution systems, GIS, inspection, permit work and joint pole program
Prepare or assist in the preparation of the Electric Utility’s 'Conditions of Approval' as the Utility’s representative to the Design Review Committee
Participate in the planning for future modifications and system improvements
Oversee the proper inspection and quality assurance activities of the department relative to electrical distribution system
Assist in the training of lower level personnel in the areas of work; identify training opportunities and need; make recommendations to higher-level staff
Ensure adherence to safe work methods, procedures and practices
Respond to questions and concerns from the general public, regulatory agencies or other public officials; provide information as is appropriate and resolves service complaints
Evaluate assigned work projects; estimate time, materials and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project; acquire necessary resources as is appropriate
Calculate and/or review electric utility line extension fees and construction charges; prepare associated invoices
Review and check construction plans submitted by developers to determine service requirements
Design and prepare construction plans, work orders, and specifications for the installation of underground and overhead electrical distribution systems
Coordinate, conduct, and participate in new development planning meetings and pre-construction meetings with developers, other City divisions, engineers, contractors and outside agencies and utilities
Analyze and recommend joint pole fees for the joint pole agreements
Oversee joint pole agreements
Prepare and/or oversee joint pole notification program and plans for make-ready work as needed
Create and maintain AutoCAD drawings and systems maps for the City electric utility system
Participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of GIS systems maps and data
Participate in the development of policies and procedures; recommend programs, projects, and work assignments to staff
Participate in the budget process, and capital improvement development
Work closely with the System Planning Engineer to develop near and long-term system plans
Prepare system impact studies for new development and capital improvement projects
Maintain prompt and regular attendance
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field is required
Four (4) years of directly related experience in the planning, design, installation and inspection of electric utility distribution systems
A valid California Class “C” Driver's License and acceptable driving record is required
Preferred
A Professional Engineer license in a related field is highly desirable
