The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education is offering a research fellowship at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) focused on genetics and parasite biology. The selected candidate will engage in research analyzing malaria parasite genomes and collaborate with researchers on the culture adaptation and cloning of malaria strains.

Responsibilities

Participate in research using a variety of molecular biology assays and bioinformatic tools to analyze malaria parasite genomes

Select genetically diverse strains from different geographic areas to use for controlled human malaria infection (CHMI)

Provide support to anti-malaria drugs and vaccines testing

Engage extensively with internal and external researchers on the culture adaptation and cloning of field malaria parasite strains

Required

Currently pursuing or have earned a bachelor's or master's degree

Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date

Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Only

Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree received within the last 60 months or currently pursuing

Disciplines: Life Health and Medical Sciences including Bioinformatics, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Epidemiology, Genetics, including Genome Sciences, Infectious Diseases and Zoonoses, Microbiology

Knowledge of basic laboratory skills (sterile technique is a plus)
