Physicians Regional Healthcare System is seeking a Surgical Tech to work in collaboration with the surgical team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The role involves preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile techniques, and assisting during surgical procedures to ensure patient safety and comfort.

Responsibilities

Prepares the operating room for surgical cases, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are properly organized and available by applying principles of Universal Precautions, asepsis, and sterile technique

Maintains aseptic techniques and ensures sterile field integrity during surgical procedures

Anticipates the surgeon’s needs during procedures, efficiently passing instruments and materials as required

Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse to ensure patient safety

Retains, labels, and documents specimens for pathology accurately, ensuring proper handling and transfer

Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer methods to ensure safety and comfort

Cleans, reprocesses, and sterilizes surgical instruments and equipment following established protocols

Demonstrates knowledge of emergency protocols and takes appropriate action in emergency situations

Assists in maintaining and updating physician preference cards to reflect procedural requirements

Contributes to perioperative team efficiency by restocking supplies, returning equipment to storage, and ensuring operating rooms are ready for subsequent cases

Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Technical School certificate course in Surgical Technology required

15 continuing education hours related to the practice of surgical technology must be maintained annually to continue employment. This is tracked within the department by management from documentation provided by the Surgical Technician employee

1-3 years of operating room surgical technician experience required

CST - Certified Surgical Technologist required

CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation within three (3) months of hire and must be maintained required

BCLS - Basic Life Support required
