Metallics Category Lead
Charter Steel is a fourth-generation family-owned business focused on growth and optimization. The Metallics Category Lead will oversee sourcing and procurement of raw materials, maintaining supplier accounts, and contributing to business development efforts to expand supplier networks.

Responsibilities
Build and maintain strong relationships, externally across supply base and internally with partner departments
Assist in the development and execution of market penetration and optimization strategy
Build an understanding of scrap generation and supplier processing capabilities, value drivers, selling criteria, and counterparty options
Participate in volume and price negotiations with supply base
Develop and maintain knowledge base of suppliers’ and competitors’ industry position, capabilities, and offerings
Periodic identification and development of new suppliers that enter the Scrap Yard channel
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in business or related field
Strong track record of success with at least 5 years of commercial experience in ferrous or non-ferrous metals or similar industrial material acquisition
Strong ability to develop and maintain relationships
Ability to understand material processing at supplier and Charter locations
A strategic mindset with the ability to execute within an everchanging market
Can lead by influence
Ability to put strategy into execution
Overall business acumen, demonstrating an ability to combine commercial, operations, economics and supply chain understanding to maximize business opportunities
Excellent negotiation skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, presentation, analytical, interpersonal, leadership
Results-oriented mindset
Proven ability of working effectively with cross-functional teams, particularly Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance
Solid computer skills, including Microsoft products
Preferred
Scrap metal purchasing experience with background working directly with scrap yards, as well as brokers, and for a metals manufacturer with melting operations
Experience in a team environment with downstream stakeholders
