Start in 2026 SpringThe Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) is seeking a Geographical Information System (GIS) Intern in their GIS Management Department. The intern will assist with the implementation of GIS applications, data clean-up, and collection efforts while gaining hands-on experience in the operations of a GIS department within the utility sector.

Responsibilities
Assist in data development and data integrity for GIS Management department
Work with GIS developers, administrator, field staff and GIS management techs
Utilize standard office software (i.e., spreadsheet, word-processing, database), Esri Software and SAP
Follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field work
Attend training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA
Participate in the continuous improvement of the Asset Management System
Comply with all BWL policies and work rules
Maintain predictable and reliable attendance
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualification
Required
Must be enrolled in an accredited educational institution in a Geographic Information Systems program, engineering, science, biology, or a related field with junior or senior status during the summer of 2026
Minimum GPA of 3.0
Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field work
Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable)
