Design Engineer – Performance & Racing
GM Performance Power Units is seeking a motivated Design Engineer to join their dynamic ICE Design Group. The role involves generating high-quality engineering solutions for powertrain systems and components, supporting projects from design to advanced development.

Responsibilities
Contribute to a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement
Create 3D CAD models, assemblies to define and document design intent while complying with Design Standards and Best Practices
Create accurate component drawings and apply proper GD&T
Apply design for manufacturing, design for assembly, and system integration knowledge into parts and subsystem designs
Perform basic linear static structural analysis to optimize components for stiffness and mass
Apply analytical results from Senior Analysists to component design with support of the Chief Engineer, Design Leader and other Designers
Develop and maintain bills of materials and standard work instructions
Ensure high quality, timely release of design responsibilities
Actively identify new areas for learning and take advantage of learning opportunities
Operate independently and proactively within a dynamic, high-variability environment
Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing partners to ensure accurate and timely production
Be an active participant in project design reviews and group meetings
Share lessons learned with Design Leader/ Design Team plus recommend updates to Best Practices
Proactively communicate with Chief Engineer, Design Manager, and Design Leader regarding project status, timing, and technical issues
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, design, or automotive engineering
Minimum 5+ years of experience with successful automotive product design results
3–5 years of experience as an automotive design engineer, preferably in powertrain
Proficiency with Siemens Teamcenter and NX
Strong technical aptitude: knowledge of internal combustion engine fundamentals is an advantage
Excellent written communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred
Expert level NX design software skills
Knowledgeable in sketch-based modeling practices
Ability to manipulate large assemblies within the NX structure
Strong working knowledge of Promoted or Linked bodies for integration of complex operations
Proficiency in NX drawings, containing all necessary views, drawing requirements, and GD&T call outs
Experience in machining techniques of additive and billet components
Strong knowledge of other various other manufacturing processes (i.e. additive, composite, machining, etc.)
Familiar with the Teamcenter PLM System for CAD data management
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Analytical problem-solving skills and ability to bring issues to resolution
