Ski Patroller Trainee

Telluride Ski & Golf is a professional ski patrol organization seeking a Ski Patroller Trainee. The role involves assisting in all aspects of ski patrol, including first aid, evacuation of injured guests, and avalanche mitigation, while maintaining a high level of fitness and expert skiing ability.

Travel

Responsibilities

Assisting ski patrol department in all aspects of ski patrol, including but not limited to, first aid and evacuation of injured guests, trail checks, equipment maintenance, guest service, avalanche mitigation, risk management and incident investigation
Responsible for safety of guests and employees while on resort property
Assists in avalanche mitigation
Understanding laws and regulations concerning ski area operations
Development of written documentation
Learning all aspects of Basic Patrol responsibilities
Completion of training checklists
Review of all written documentation
Training on all related Ski Patrol equipment
Responsible for proper operation and care of communication equipment
Be familiar with Crisis Management Plans
Work closely with community Emergency Management Services
Prepare Daily Incident Reports as directed by Ski Patrol Management
Complete all training documentation as directed by Ski Patrol Management
Take care of equipment but is not required to service or repair equipment

Required

Current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) or Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) certification, or a Wilderness First Responder taught by Wilderness Medical Institutes, Wilder Medical Associates, or SOLO
High level of fitness
Expert level skiing ability (no snowboards)
Commitment to a full-time seasonal schedule of four days per week
Ability to interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers and management
Ability to work in a stressful environment
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) - College preferred
Outdoor Emergency Care and CPR for the professional rescuer
One year previous experience in related field and/or combination of education and experience
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Must be able to work for extended periods of time in variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions
Must be able to function effectively at elevations of 10,000 feet or higher
Must be able to write legibly
Must be able to speak and understand English
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Must be able to obtain a Colorado Type 1 Blasters Permit

Preferred

Experience in avalanche mitigation, beacon search/companion rescue and high angle rescue
Background in outdoor recreation, outdoor education as well as involvement in team athletics
Resume that displays a progression of experiences that displays the acquisitions of skills blending with evidence of leadership skills
Background with Outward Bound, Scouting, National Outdoor Leadership experience, US military background
