Assistant Attorney General, General Civil Unit
The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking an Assistant Attorney General for the General Civil Unit. The successful candidate will defend the Commonwealth of Virginia and its officials in state and federal courts, handling cases that include personal injury torts and constitutional rights violations, while also providing legal advice throughout the litigation process.
Law Practice
Responsibilities
Defend the Commonwealth of Virginia, its agencies and departments, and its officials and employees in state and federal courts
Litigating cases which can range from personal injury torts to alleged violations of constitutional rights
Drafting pleadings and briefs
Conducting all aspects of discovery, including investigation, e-discovery and motions practice
Providing legal advice to clients through the course of litigation, court appearances, and trial and appellate work
Qualification
Required
Admission to the Virginia State Bar required
The position requires exceptional written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in time management, the ability to manage a diverse and challenging caseload, a willingness to assist and supervise others, and the flexibility to work both independently and as a team member
Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure and adjust priorities without close supervision
Preferred
A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of civil litigation experience in federal or state court is preferred; similar litigation experience will be considered
