MUSC Health is seeking an Engineer/Associate Engineer II in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, specifically for the Brain Stimulation Laboratory. The role involves performing independent analysis, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of complex non-invasive brain stimulation technologies, while also assisting in studies aimed at improving cognition and emotion regulation among participants with neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.

Responsibilities

Plans and directs appropriate test procedure for QA/QC of the various brain stimulation laboratories. This includes, but is not limited to, generating QA/QC protocols, developing processes for efficient testing, recording results, training graduate students and other personnel in appropriate procedures to use the interface equipment
Helps plan, design, order or build, and then test custom brain stimulation devices such as sham systems. Oversee the technical aspects of the laboratories, maintaining all equipment, performing quality control studies across the different labs, developing new analysis routines and participating in data collection. Performs duties in support of conducting research for complex laboratory research experiments on human subjects to advance the understanding of the control of human locomotion and to develop novel rehabilitation models and techniques that involve brain stimulation methods, including using software programs to investigate the neurophysiological properties of systems and perform mathematical simulations of neurophysiological systems using computational software
Reviews data analysis, poster presentations and literature searches. Supervises personnel in the preparation of materials for presentation
Trains new study personnel and students in the use of BSTIM equipment. Evaluates new technology and advises core directors on equipment for purchases, or its applications
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree aligned to construction, building management, engineering, engineering technology, architecture or similar discipline
Two years construction, building management, engineering, engineering technology, architecture or similar discipline work experience
Ability to perform job functions in an upright position

Preferred

Must be able to function independently and possess excellent interpersonal skills
Experience with electronic instrument development is preferred
A master's degree in biomedical engineering or equivalent discipline
Familiarity with MATLAB, SPIKE or SPARC or EPrime are helpful but not required
