Instron is one of the leading specialists of material and structural durability testing, and they are seeking a highly motivated professional to join their team as a Field Service Engineer in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This role involves traveling to customer sites to perform maintenance, repair, and installation services on a wide range of Instron’s servo-hydraulic structural testing products while providing both on-site and remote support to customers.

Responsibilities

Traveling to customer sites to perform maintenance, repair, and installation services on a wide range of Instron’s servo-hydraulic structural testing products
Working within a global team to understand system assemblies and sub-assemblies, including their electrical, PLC, and mechanical software interconnections
Providing both on-site and remote support to customers
Interfacing with headquarters to ensure accurate and timely responses to customer inquiries regarding support, spare parts, upgrades, and additional services
Ensuring approximately 50% overnight travel, including multiple weeks for training and installation work

Required

Associate or Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent military/trade school training
Strong understanding of electro-mechanical systems, including electrical, mechanical, and electronic components
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation related to servo-hydraulic systems
Proficiency with PCs, operating systems, and Microsoft Office applications
Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, soldering, and software/firmware installation

Preferred

Prior field service experience
Experience with multi-axis hydraulic test equipment
Familiarity with PID control of servo-hydraulic actuators
Knowledge of Siemens and Weidmueller automation systems
Understanding of sensor calibration
Experience operating overhead cranes for actuator and hydraulic component placement
