Senior AI/ML Researcher (TS/SCI)

Responsibilities
Contributing to multi-discipline AI/ML research teams use of multi-INT data (with emphasis on GEOINT) to design/create/implement and rigorously evaluate machine learning approaches and relevant technologies
Data engineering to transform various data types to support various phases of the AI/ML workflow
Architect and develop novel AI/ML models (e.g., computer vision, semantic activity detection) applied to government data and integration
Design, implement, and evaluate various edge-based AI/ML solutions to include hardware and software stacks
Keeping abreast on recent AI/ML technical advances from industry and academia and applying them to customer mission problems
Developing/maintaining expertise on a broad spectrum of AI/ML domains such as but not limited to computer vision, geospatial analytics/prediction, signal processing, and agentic approaches and synthesizing them to prototype capabilities
Providing strategic advice to government on various AI/ML industry and research trends and solutioning
Briefing government clients, contractor partners and internal Maxar teams on delivery progress, evaluation results and project challenges
Advising Maxar and the project manager on the strengths and weaknesses of various AI/ML approaches, staffing footprints and delivery strategies
Providing subject matter expertise and mentoring other team members
Integrating and fielding a range of talents and personnel spanning the full landscape of data scientist skillsets: ETL, mathematics and modeling, data engineering, visualization and storytelling, platform integration and data analytics
Generating sprint-style projections and risk assessments for AI/ML deliveries
Traveling occasionally to local government sites for customer meetings and demonstrations
Qualification
Required
Must be US Citizen
Must have a current/active TS/SCI and be willing and able to obtain a CI Polygraph
B.S. in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography or related field
7+ years designing, developing, testing, and deploying AI/ML models on a variety of data types
2+ year working with synthetic training data generation, low-shot learning, and robust ML (not limited to computer vision)
2+ year working with cloud-based platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) and integrating AI/ML capabilities (SageMaker, IBM Watson Studio, etc.)
Experience with remote sensing, GEOINT datasets, and government collection platforms including electro-optical (EO), radio frequency (RF), and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery
Ability to work with a geographically distributed team
Ability to work onsite in Herndon, VA or Westminster, CO
Effective communicator demonstrated through technical writing (proposals, white papers, academic publications) and speaking engagements (briefing larger groups, conference presentations, etc.)
Organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
Preferred
Advanced degree (M.S, Ph.D.) in Data Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Applied Geography, or related field
Competence with the Python data science stack (e.g., numpy, pandas, matplotlib, sklearn, etc.)
Competence with Python's geospatial libraries, such as gdal, geopandas, shapely, etc
Competence with deep learning algorithms for image science (YOLO, SSD, DetectNet, etc.)
Competence with containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Cloud Foundry, etc.)
Competence with Linux environment
Competence with version control technologies such as Git, GitLab, etc
Competence with designing and implementing compute hardware and infrastructure solutions to support both edge and backend applications
Experience with communication hardware and signal processing to include but not limited to antenna design/implementation, RF signal propagation, and software defined radios
