Engineered Systems Technician 3/4 (Engineered Systems Tec 3/4)
Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The Engineered Systems Technician will support operation, maintenance, and upgrades of high-power Radio Frequency amplifier systems, and collaborate in the design of new equipment for future upgrades.

Responsibilities
Support operation, maintenance and upgrades of high-power Radio Frequency amplifier systems around the accelerator
Collaborate in the design of new equipment for future upgrades
Provide 'on call' support for the LANSCE high power RF amplifier systems after hours and on weekends
Qualification
Required
The successful candidate must have experience in: The use of electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters
Reading and understanding basic electrical wiring diagrams or schematics, work from documentation, diagrams, rough sketches, layouts, and verbal instructions
Prototyping an electronic chassis including mechanical changes such as the installation of panel mount connectors, terminal boards and PCBs inside metal containment and wiring of connections between the different components
Performing installation, maintenance, commissioning and troubleshooting on electrical and/or electronic equipment and/or systems
Working individually and as part of a team
Producing clear written documents and communications
Using AutoCAD or a similar CAD program to open and view schematics or drawings
Using AutoCAD, Visio or a similar CAD program to produce and alter schematics or drawings
Producing simple mechanical drawings for supports and chassis to be manufactured by an external manufacturer
Producing electronic and/or electrical drawings from paper drawn schematics or descriptions with a design software (AutoCAD, Visio, Altium, Eagle, etc.)
Programming PLC (Shneider Electric, Allen Bradley, etc.) and/or FPGA (NI Labview, Altera, etc.) control systems
Hazard analysis and safety documentation
Leading troubleshooting and maintenance efforts
Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training and/or certification may be expected
Preferred
The preferred candidate would have experience in: Forklift and crane operations
Soldering with fine-pitch, surface mount components
Using RF test equipment such as network analyzer, spectrum analyzer and RF power meters
High-voltage and high power equipment such as transformers, capacitor banks, rectifiers, hi-potters power supplies, crowbar and their protection systems
Pulsed power systems such as modulators and fast switching high voltage systems
RF systems using solid-state or tube amplifiers in the low MHz to UHF range
Experience with computer-based circuit layout simulation (PSpice, Multisim, LTSPice, etc.)
Water an air cooling systems such as blowers, pumps, manifolds, water and air sensors and their installation and maintenance
Operations experience at an accelerator facility
