AEGIS SPY-1 Radar Transmitter Field Engineer

Responsibilities

Travel to various Naval shipyards, both CONUS and OCONUS, as required to support ORDALT installations and technical assistance efforts
Accept temporary assignments that involve at-sea support aboard U.S. Navy ships in support of AEGIS systems
Operate, maintain, align, troubleshoot, and repair all variants of the SPY-1 Radar Transmitter Equipment and MK99 Fire Control Systems (FCS) aboard U.S. Navy Aegis-class destroyers, cruisers, land-based sites, or other designated locations, using state-of-the-art test equipment and operational readiness test systems
Participate in the planning and execution phases of shipboard equipment installations
Analyze equipment failures to determine root causes and implement appropriate corrective actions
Perform radar system modifications, including ordnance alterations (ORDALTs) and change incorporation notices (CINs)
Conduct intricate backplane and chassis wiring modifications, as well as mechanical modifications to SPY radar and FCS hardware
Prepare and submit detailed reports outlining equipment discrepancies along with recommended solutions
Provide guidance and hands-on training to Navy technicians across all aspects of the SPY radar and MK99 FCS
Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs, while maintaining accurate performance and maintenance records for supported systems
Extensive travel, including CONUS, OCONUS, and at-sea assignments
Lifting up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform physically demanding tasks onboard Navy vessels

Required

Typically requires a Bachelor's and a minimum of 2 years prior relevant experience, or an Advance Degree in a related field and a minimum of 0 years' experience
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Formal training in Basic Electronics & Electricity, including RF, digital, and analog principles
Minimum six years of experience working with the AEGIS Weapon System
Completion of Aegis “C” School for AEGIS SPY-1 Transmitter
Completion of Aegis “C” School for AEGIS FCS Transmitters
Experience interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics
Experience with electronics, radar systems, tools, test equipment, and cooling systems, including the ability to perform diagnostics and repairs

Preferred

Strong technical writing skills to maintain AEGIS documentation, report issues to Program Management and Quality Assurance, and develop solutions to complex problems
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with peers, superiors, and military personnel
Direct experience with AEGIS systems, particularly the SPY-1 transmitter or the MK 99 Fire Control System
General knowledge of RF cable construction and repair
Working knowledge of electrical multi-pin connectors and their maintenance
Understanding of RF principles, analog/digital circuitry, and ability to troubleshoot across those domains
Skilled in wire wrap and soldering, and use of specialized and general hand tools
Experience operating and troubleshooting with Operational Readiness Test Systems (ORTS)
Familiarity with U.S. Navy shipboard safety standards and shipyard operations
Experience working in shipyard or dry-dock environments
Prior international or overseas assignment experience
Electronics Technician Certification or equivalent military/technical school credential
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams and organizations, and communicate professionally with customers, peers, and leadership
