Scrap Inspector

BlueScope Recycling is a full-service ferrous scrap metal recycler with facilities in multiple locations. The Scrap Inspector will observe and monitor material deliveries to ensure they meet quality and quantity specifications, and will be responsible for inspecting, grading, and documenting inbound and outbound loads of scrap metal.

Responsibilities

Inspect shipments of scrap metal received via truck or rail car, to ensure material meets specifications and is free from hazards in accordance with scrap acceptance policy

Correctly identify and record inspection data such as weight, grade, content, and quantity of scrap metal through documentation, pictures, and reports

Assist and direct suppliers with inbound scrap deliveries and unloading at the correct commodity pile and/or processing area

Direct the unloading of vehicles delivering scrap to ensure safe and orderly traffic flow within the facility

Complete inbound inspection grader reports for every load that enters the yard

Notify operations supervisors of problems and assist in recommending remedial procedures to correct violations or issues encountered during inspection

Collaborate with marketing department concerning quality and consistency of customer deliveries

Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned

Perform general housekeeping duties in yard as needed

Strictly adhere to all BlueScope Recycling Health, Safety, and Environmental rules and standards

Required

High school diploma or GED

Basic math, reading and writing skills

Knowledge of Non-Ferrous and Ferrous Materials

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work efficiently

Pass a pre-employment drug screening

Pass a pre-employment background check

Walk, sit, stand, stoop for long periods of time

Able to lift 30 lbs. and shovel material continuously for at least 8 hours per day

Exposure to physical operations in scrap recycling facilities, including walking/climbing in active industrial yards with uneven surfaces in inclement weather
