Public Counsel is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to advancing civil rights and racial and economic justice. The Community Development Project (CDP) seeks student interns to gain hands-on experience in direct legal services, policy advocacy, and litigation, where they will engage in client intakes, legal research, drafting documents, and supporting community trainings.

Responsibilities

Conduct client intakes
Research and analyze legal issues to support our direct legal services, impact litigation, and policy advocacy work
Draft client documents such as articles and bylaws, contracts, and demand letters
Prepare and provide community trainings
Attend coalition meetings
Support with litigation as needed and advance policy advocacy efforts

Required

Hands-on experience in direct legal services, policy advocacy, and litigation
Ability to conduct client intakes
Research and analyze legal issues to support direct legal services, impact litigation, and policy advocacy work
Draft client documents such as articles and bylaws, contracts, and demand letters
Prepare and provide community trainings
Attend coalition meetings
Support with litigation as needed and advance policy advocacy efforts
Submit two PDFs, one containing a cover letter and the other containing a resume (and a transcript, if available)
Identify with which team(s) described in the job description you would like to work
Discuss why you are interested in interning with Public Counsel generally and with CDP specifically
Consider addressing topics related to historically underrepresented students and lived experiences in the cover letter
