Talent & Culture - Director, Employee Relations

The Child Center of NY is dedicated to fostering a positive work environment, and they are seeking a Director of Employee Relations. This role is responsible for managing employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with labor agreements, and serving as a liaison between management and union representatives.

Responsibilities

Serve as primary point of contact for union representatives across four collective bargaining units
Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements (CBAs); ensure consistent and fair enforcement
Support grievance and arbitration processes, including investigation, documentation, and representation
Investigate and resolve employee complaints, conflicts, and misconduct allegations
Provide coaching and guidance to Directors on performance management, disciplinary actions, and employee engagement
Develop and implement employee relations policies and procedures aligned with agency values and legal requirements
Monitor workplace climate and proactively address issues impacting morale and productivity
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
Maintain accurate records of employee relations cases, grievances, and outcomes
Prepare reports and presentations for leadership on trends, risks, and recommendations
Facilitate training for supervisors and staff on employee relations topics, including conflict resolution, respectful workplace practices, and labor relations
Promote a culture of equity, inclusion, and collaboration

Required

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field
Minimum 5 years of progressive HR and employee relations experience, preferably in a unionized, nonprofit setting
Strong knowledge of labor laws, union contracts, and employee relations best practices
Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and foster a positive work environment
Living in New York State is a prerequisite for this position

Preferred

Certification in human resources such as SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resources Management Certified Professional)
