Responsibilities

Complies with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including protecting the confidentiality of patient information
Performs a multitude of diagnostic and interventional procedures under the guidance of an interventional radiologist and / or Physician Assistant (PA)
Responsible for performing arteriogram, digital subtraction angioplasty (DSA), abscess drainage, transhepatic cholangiogram, biliary tube insertion / exchange, nephrostomy, percutaneous cholangiogram, central venous access catheter (CVC) insertion /exchange, lysis, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA), stenting, and other major / minor special procedures
Assists the practitioner with other interventional cases by scrubbing in, or by circulating in the procedure room
As scrub assistant or circulator, anticipates need for instruments and passes instruments, as required
Is responsible for post-processing of images as well as all associated paperwork and computer tracking
Sends images to Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
Operates specialized equipment such as the GE INNOVA 4100, digital subtraction computer, MEDRAD power injector, EKOS peripheral and neuro control units, ANGIOJET unit, Penumbra Device, Philips MD4, and GE Logic 9 Ultrasound unit, and Sonosite Ultrasound unit
Sends images to PACS and prints laser film, as necessary
Prepares reports and maintains records of services rendered
Ensures proper charge codes are on the requisitions
Orders and tracks in LifeChart
Ensures proper input in HI-IQ data system
Reviews available clinical data from LifeChart in order to alert nurses and/or physicians to possible contraindications for procedure
Prepares, drapes and positions patient
Relies on knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes to properly and safely position the patient for maximum diagnostic yield
Observes for reaction to iodine contrast injection
Maintains aseptic / sterile conditions
Ensures functional integrity of equipment
Maintains radiographic equipment, x-ray rooms, and other assigned areas are in orderly and clean working condition
Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to Medical Engineering Department, manager, and other service providers, as necessary
Ensures the correct billing of patient accounts, working in conjunction with interventional practitioner
Orders and tracks in LifeChart
Accurately charges all medical surgical items requiring charges as noted by charge slips
Ensures accurate input in HI-IQ data system
Sets up surgical trays, supplies and equipment
Adjusts immobilization devices and assembles equipment supplies as required
Cleans and sends instruments to Central Supply, as needed
Prepares and cleans laboratory and equipment, using appropriate hospital disinfectants
Works closely with the interventional radiologist to plan and adjust the exam schedule and plan necessary special supplies
Checks stock inventory, initiates orders, and restocks supplies
Maintains expiration dates per Shelf Life of Supplies policy A-11
Performs duties of X-ray technologist involving the most advanced X-ray techniques, using both fixed and portable equipment
Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control, and aseptic standards in assigned area in accordance with established hospital department policies, procedures and objectives
Performs all essential functions with consideration of the age-specific needs of the geriatric, adult, and adolescent patient
Fosters patient and family centered care and Imaging services in accordance with Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital's mission, vision, values, with consideration of the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns
Performs other related duties, as required

Required

Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology or equivalent
Must maintain a current license to work in the State of Rhode Island
Must hold current ARRT certification
Three months' training in aseptic techniques and training in specialized catheterization studies
Must have interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress, and to instruct students and employees in angiography techniques
Analytical skills to compile and interpret routine data and organize work
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development states, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process

Preferred

One year of Angiography experience preferred
