PATIENT CARE TECH
UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Tech to provide basic patient care and support in the Neuroscience department. The role involves monitoring patient safety, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring proper documentation and adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities
Observe patient to ensure their safety and well being; report observations to Charge Nurse or appropriate designee
Provide basic patient care; take and record vital signs to include temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure and intake-output measurements
Assist with activities of daily living (ADL): meals, ambulation, hygiene, linen change and toileting as instructed
Maintain therapeutic plan of care and minute to minute care of patient who is at extreme risk to self or others
Complete documentation as required on the Electronic Medical Record
Complete specific skills listed in the "University of New Mexico, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel Specific Functions" Matrix
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable
Maintain equipment, stock supplies, complete daily checks to ensure EMU equipment is operational
Under direction of licensed personnel; attentively observe behavior of designated patients, via camera, on the Neuroscience Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and remotely on other in-patient hospital units, recognize and respond to routine and emergent behavioral event situations, notify appropriate personnel of changes, document behaviors of such patients in the appropriate charting areas, and optimize EEG readings by preventing and/or eliminating artifact
Verify coverage eligibility on patients for outside services as needed
Qualification
Required
High School or GED Equivalent
Training
Education specialization: MA or PCT or CNA or DD214 or 2 sem nurs schl or UNMH Tech
1 year directly related experience
CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people
Working conditions: Sig Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials req PPE
Limited access to med room. Med Admin Policy, Att A
Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
Preferred
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
Medical Terminology course w/in six months of position
