Responsibilities
Advise engineering and business leadership on IP strategy and risk management
Oversee the global patent portfolio for assigned product categories
Manage patent litigation and pre-litigation matters, including support for other product categories
Conduct infringement assessments of competitor products
Provide IP guidance in transactional matters, including technology licensing
Identify and evaluate inventions from assigned product categories
Lead patent committee meetings and facilitate invention disclosures
Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses
Manage the patent marking program for assigned business units
Supervise and collaborate with outside counsel
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
Admission to at least one U.S. state bar and registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Minimum of 5 years' experience as an IP attorney in a law firm or corporate legal department; a mix of both is preferred
Strong analytical and judgment skills with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives
Proven ability to develop practical, creative solutions that support strategic goals
Effective communicator with excellent oral and written skills
Ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate across business units
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work on time
Customer-focused, responsive, and proactive
Eager to learn and comfortable stepping outside your comfort zone
Preferred
Technical background in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Physics is strongly preferred
Familiarity with audio digital signal processing (DSP) considered a plus
