Professor/Director, Cancer Control, Prevention and Epidemiology Program at TGH Cancer Institute

Responsibilities
Teach courses in cancer epidemiology and/or epidemiologic methods at the master’s or doctoral levels
Advise graduate students; chair and serve on master’s and doctoral student committees
Contribute to undergraduate teaching and research mentorship
Teach or co-teach three courses per year
Contribute to student and junior faculty mentorship and academic leadership
Serve as Director of the Cancer Control, Prevention, and Epidemiology Program at the TGH Cancer Institute
Shape and implement the program’s strategic vision
Foster collaborative research between USF and TGH investigators
Mentor faculty, trainees, and staff
Guide translational and population-based initiatives that enhance cancer control and equity across the region
Represent the program in institutional planning efforts and contribute to elevating its national visibility and impact
Establish and maintain an externally funded research program in cancer epidemiology
Secure competitive funding to support research activities and meet the required salary support level by the start of the fourth year of employment
Collaborate across departments and institutions on interdisciplinary initiatives
Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences
Mentor graduate students; provide leadership in interdisciplinary cancer research initiatives
Represent the department in college- and university-level strategic planning related to cancer prevention and public health
Engage in service activities at the departmental, college, university, and professional levels
Participate in faculty governance, committees, and special initiatives
Involvement in professional organizations and scientific review activities
Serve as a formal mentor (Department or College) to junior faculty
Contribute to community and public health service efforts by applying professional expertise to local, regional, or national initiatives
Qualification
Required
Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service
Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in referred and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization
Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Professor
Two years of sustained accomplishment at the Associate Professor level as an Epidemiologist at an accredited university – or the equivalent in a government, military, or research setting
National and/or international record of excellence in independent and/or collaborative research in cancer epidemiology (e.g., cancer etiology, prevention, early detection, treatment outcomes, survivorship, health equity, or cancer-related public health genomics) supported by substantial publications of research finding
Record of sustained extramural funding in the areas referenced above
Record of excellence in teaching including a clearly defined teaching philosophy, participation as a major professor for thesis and/or dissertation committees and successful direction of the work of master's and doctoral candidates, or equivalent trainees where applicable
Record of substantive contribution of service to their university or organization and to the field, profession, and community
Compelling evidence of significant achievement among peers in one's discipline or professional field at the national or international level
Record of collegiality in their university or organization
Preferred
Current extramural funded research providing a minimum of 40% salary support
Record of leading strategic research initiatives
Record of mentoring junior faculty or equivalent
Record of successfully leading multidisciplinary cancer related research teams or institutional programs that include cancer center, medical center, or medical system engagement, analogous to the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute, Moffitt Cancer Center, USF Health, or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities
Demonstrated record of collaborative cancer related research partnerships involving cancer centers, medical centers, or health systems, including institutions such as the Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute, Moffitt Cancer Center, USF Health, or U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
Classroom and/or online teaching experience as an epidemiologist at the graduate level, particularly in cancer epidemiology or related public health topics
Record of applied innovative teaching approaches in academic and/or practice-based settings
Leadership in professional or scientific organizations related to epidemiology, cancer research, or public health
Research program that aligns with the strategic priorities of the Department of Epidemiology of the USF College of Public Health and the TGH Cancer Institute
