Statistician

As a Statistician, you will support the Nuclear Material Control & Accountability program, ensuring the safe and compliant management of nuclear materials through accurate documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

Perform basic statistical calculations to support inventory checks and material balances
Track and verify measurement data, including weights, volumes, and assay results
Calculate averages, error margins, and simple uncertainty estimates for measurements
Help design and check forms, spreadsheets, and databases used for MC&A reporting
Support periodic physical inventories and reconcile records with actual counts
Assist in preparing compliance reports and internal audits
Work with engineers and safeguards staff to learn applied MC&A concepts

Required

Bachelor's degree in Math, Statistics, Physics, or a related field
Proficiency in advanced math fundamentals, including algebra, probability, and descriptive statistics (means, variance, standard deviation, error propagation)
Proficiency in Excel
Excellent attention to detail and problem solving abilities

Preferred

Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc)
Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey math concepts clearly to diverse audiences
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
Willingness and ability to quickly learn regulatory requirements
Familiarity with physics or chemistry concepts
Interest in learning about nuclear safeguards and regulatory compliance
