Outside Sales - Process Engineer

The Sales Engineer – Outside Sales Associate is responsible for generating leads, building a strong pipeline, and converting opportunities into orders within the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Responsibilities
Identify and contact new prospects daily via calls, emails, referrals, LinkedIn, and industry networking
Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline, tracking progress in the CRM system (Copper)
Schedule and conduct in-person and virtual client meetings to understand process needs and present solutions
Actively participate in trade shows, conferences, and technical seminars to expand market presence
Collaborate with marketing to execute targeted campaigns and social media initiatives that generate qualified leads
Provide weekly sales activity and pipeline updates to management
Partner closely with account executives and technical specialists to qualify leads and shorten the sales cycle
Proactively convert qualified leads into signed orders, meeting or exceeding annual sales targets
Issue accurate, timely quotes and proposals that reflect both commercial and technical requirements
Present clear value propositions tailored to customer priorities, including ROI, reliability, compliance, and efficiency
Foster strong long-term relationships by ensuring transparent communication and alignment of expectations
Monitor competitors’ equipment offerings, pricing strategies, and sales methods to guide positioning
Maintain close communication with existing customers for repeat business and upselling opportunities
Serve as the technical bridge between customers and internal engineering teams, relaying process data, specifications, and site constraints
Help customers interpret and understand P&IDs, control diagrams, I/O lists, performance curves, equipment data sheets, and layout drawings
Collaborate on preparing technical compliance statements, FAT/SAT protocols, installation guidelines, and exceptions lists for proposals and contracts
Explain complex topics such as ASME, UL/ETL, NEC, API, GMP, and cryogenic safety requirements to clients in a clear, non-jargon way
Participate in design reviews and pre-bid meetings to ensure technical feasibility and alignment
Provide feedback from the field to guide product development and continuous improvement
Support content creation (white papers, LinkedIn posts, case studies) that highlight engineering-driven value propositions
Contribute to annual marketing plans and sales forecasts
Stay abreast of industry regulations, competitive technologies, and market trends to identify new opportunities
Qualification
Required
Minimum 4 years of experience in the Fine Chemical or Pharmaceutical industry, in Capital Equipment Purchasing and/or Marketing/Sales
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering,(Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Biotech or Electrical)
Ability to discuss highly technical concepts with prospective leads
Willingness to travel (50%-70% travel, both domestic and international)
Excellent knowledge of MS office products
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
