Responsibilities
Conceiving of creative and distinct story ideas
Collaborating with other members of the Visuals desk and colleagues from around The Athletic
Producing work in a range of forms, from written stories to charts to other visual forms
Data analysis in a variety of forms
A range of interactive development, from light chart production to developing interactive applications
Adhering to The Athletic’s editorial standards
Qualification
Required
Experience publishing explanatory journalism across a range of subjects
Demonstrated experience in using data, technology and visuals for clear, effective explanation
Experience working in a news organization
Proven track record of collaboration — someone excited about working with other people
Ability to be well organized and highly skilled in reporting and writing in a variety of story forms
Experience approaching the news creatively
An interest in and ability to learn technological skills
Preferred
Experience working with and analyzing data, in Excel, R, Python or other tools
Experience producing publication-grade charts and visuals, in Adobe Illustrator, Figma or in the browser
Experience producing interactive journalism using modern programming frameworks like Svelte
