Vocational Training Supervisor
Allegheny County is seeking a Vocational Training Supervisor who will provide monitoring, coordination, planning, recommendations, and assistance to the Classification, Education, and Re-Entry departments for both vocational and educational incentive program participation. The role involves ensuring the efficiency of the educational and vocational incentive program while meeting the needs of incarcerated individuals in a timely manner.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Monitors and audits the incentive program to ensure the accurate distribution of incentives for participants in educational and vocational training
Coordinates the screening and placement of incarcerated individuals into various vocational assignments
Advises facility staff on solving problems relating to the incarcerated individuals’ vocational assignments
Collaborates with the Classification Department to help recommend incarcerated individuals for vocational placement
Collaborates with the Education and Re-entry Departments to enroll incarcerated individuals in the incentive program
Receives and audits attendance records for vocational and educational programming
Works directly with the cashier’s office to ensure proper distribution of incentives
Works closely with both educational instructors and vocational instructors to help them understand the incentive program
Ensures those with language barriers and/or hearing impairments have access to interpretation services and placement into educational/vocational services programs
Actively works to resolve complaints from the incarcerated population
Keeps a roster of all program participants
Prepares utilization/monitoring reports and additional data or reports as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned or directed
Qualification
Required
A high school diploma AND six (6) years of experience working within criminal justice, psychology, social work, education, or a related field
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must have ACT 33/34 clearance prior to appointment
Candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position
The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment
Knowledge of Correctional Educational and Vocational programs
Knowledge of the general skills requirements within various vocational areas of the jail
Knowledge of the Criminal Justice system
Knowledge of resource engagement
Skill in Microsoft Office, including Excel
Ability to function independently and make informed decisions using sound professional judgment and ethics
Ability to seek creative solutions to enhance, develop, or augment services/programs within the institution
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks in a stressful environment
Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and various departments within the jail
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow written and oral instructions
Ability to negotiate, manage, and resolve conflicts successfully
Ability to analyze and interpret data
Ability to apply solution-focused problem-solving
Ability to manage programs and resources efficiently
