Public Works Utility System Operator

The Town of Harrisburg is one of the fastest-growing communities in North Carolina, seeking a Utility System Operator for its Public Works Department. The role involves construction, installation, and repair of water and sewer lines and pump stations, as well as operating construction equipment and performing inspections and repairs.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of work in the construction, installation and repair of water and sewer lines and pump stations
Operate construction equipment in the installation, replacement and repair of water and sewer pipes to specific grade and depth, and backfilling and compacting the site
Inspect and repair sewer lift stations and pumps, making taps to water and sewer mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, reading meters, and making repairs to the water and sewer system

Required

Graduation from high school
Considerable experience in related construction or utility maintenance work including heavy equipment operation experience
Possession of a valid appropriate North Carolina Commercial Driver's License
Certification by the State of NC in water distribution, wastewater collection, backflow prevention and cross connection, and/or other certifications as required by the Town of Harrisburg
Possession of either a Grade I Collection Certification OR a Grade C Distribution Certification
At least one year of experience in the field of Public Works maintenance or equivalent field experience
