Instructional & Media Designer

The Universities of Wisconsin is seeking an Instructional & Media Designer to support teaching across various modalities. The role involves collaborating with faculty to design engaging courses, developing instructional materials, and leading multiple projects focused on improving instructional quality and integrating emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design engaging, high-quality in-person, online and hybrid courses
Develop instructional strategies, course materials, and assessments aligned with learning objectives and best practices
Evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and pedagogical approaches, including AR/VR and AI applications
Ensure accessibility and usability of instructional materials for diverse learners
Conduct research and pilot emerging technologies to enhance teaching and learning
Maintain and improve instructional solutions based on feedback and evaluation data
Provide consultation and training to faculty and staff on instructional design, online pedagogy, and technology integration
Develop and deliver professional development modules and resources
Support instructors in creating accessible, standards-aligned course materials
Lead and manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously
Contribute to departmental initiatives focused on quality improvement and innovation
Stay informed of trends in instructional design, accessibility, and educational technology
Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies
Provides support for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and disseminating data to identify instructional program needs and enhance effectiveness
Assists with the design and development of multimedia learning materials
Provides support for faculty development and engagement programs and activities
Assists with the design and development of engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online
Completes initial edits, reviews, and updates of existing instructional materials
Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning technology tools and platforms
Contributes to researching, designing, and/or acquiring learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning
Assists with providing basic training and technical support to learners in settings such as classrooms, labs, clinics, and distance learning mediums

Required

Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, instructional technology, or a related field
Demonstrated experience in online or XR instructional design
Strong communication skills and ability to develop practical, learner-focused resources
Experience working collaboratively with diverse teams

Preferred

Master's degree or equivalent experience in instructional design or related field
3+ years of experience in instructional design, preferably in higher education
Experience designing accessibility and familiarity with accessibility standards
Knowledge of Canvas LMS and other learning technologies
Experience with AR/VR, AI, or other emerging technologies in education
Strong project management skills and ability to lead initiatives from start to finish
