Responsibilities

Responsible for project management of the technical work for the formulation and direction of policy to reduce toxic threats in consumer products, including:
Manage and track the progress of projects identified in operational and work plans for the portfolio
Work with project teams to develop the appropriate materials and technical documents required within the allotted timeframes. Provide planning and project management tools, mentoring, and coordination support to staff in the unit
Provide organizational planning and coordination by identifying key criteria, policy, and implementation goals important to the program
Work with teams to prioritize key issues
Coordinate with other programs when issues overlap
Identify policy needs and provide planning and project management support for their development
Onboard new unit staff
Develop products that adhere to agency standards and Plain Talk standards; and meet Title VI and agency language, accessibility, and nondiscrimination standards

Required

Ten years of experience and/or education as described below: Experience performing chemical analysis. Experience must include at least one year of experience supervising professional chemists
Education involving a major study in chemistry, or with a minimum of 30 semester hours, or 45 quarter hours, of college level chemistry
One year of experience as a Chemist 3, at the department of Ecology

Preferred

Experience supervising staff that analyze and develop options for policy issues or the implementation of new programs and laws
Knowledge of Washington State laws and regulations pertaining to consumer products, hazardous waste and pollution prevention
A certificate in green chemistry / green engineering or closely related environmental field
