Start in 2026 SummerMcClatchy Media is seeking a News Intern for The Herald’s newsroom for summer 2026, providing an opportunity to work alongside experienced journalists in a dynamic environment. The intern will be responsible for reporting stories ready for digital publication and will receive training and mentorship throughout the internship.

Responsibilities
Report stories ready to be edited for digital publication on multiple platforms
Work closely with editors of the Charlotte Observer
Access to sessions with experienced journalists
Learn about topics such as reporting and writing news stories, researching public documents, working on deadlines, and understanding libel law
Work with a mentor and expect regular feedback and coaching from their editor
Qualification
Required
A collaborative work ethic and a strong desire to learn
Deep curiosity and a drive to find the truth
Solid news judgment, accuracy, and high ethical standards
Understanding of the professional use of social media in news-gathering and audience development
A quick study of technology and tools used in news-gathering
Preferred
Previous experience reporting and/or producing for a student or professional news publication
Experience working at a college publication, print or online, or another news outlet
