Responsibilities

Provides specialized expertise in a technical area
Provides expert technical and strategic consultation within the company
Leads or serves as subject matter expert permitting, the production of multiple studies of comprehensive scope in technical area or a large complex project or assignment
Provides technical guidance to team and company
Oversees preparation of deliverables
Manages or collaborates on efforts from prospect to deliverable
Serves as representative to all internal and external stakeholders
Recognized by external parties as expert in the field
Strategic resource to other groups within PGE
Oversees program management
Actively coordinates with all internal/external PGE members
Facilitates effective and strategic outcomes
Resolves internal and external conflicts within team and stakeholders
Communicates stakeholder interests and drivers to project team members and develops strategies and approaches to accommodate these concerns
Oversees and leads client/agency interactions and presentations
Directs and coordinates specialist team in technical area on study assignments
May manage and supervise a team and associated resources
Senior consultant for multiple projects led by others
Strategic resource to other groups within PGE
Strategizes and leads the implementation of improvements
As a process owner, approves the implementation of process and tool improvements
May develop or modify processes and systems as needed
Recognized in the industry as an expert within technical and policy area
Actively shares and promotes knowledge with PGE and industry
Mentors, encourages and involves other team members
Authors and presents technical papers to professional groups within the industry
Leadership in professional groups within the industry
Serves as spokesperson for PGE
Promotes PGE standards, safety objectives and regulatory requirements
Ensures adherence by team members
Performs all aspects of complex permitting, assessments and technical analyses for assigned technical area
Responsible for applying advanced techniques and analyses
Functions as a lead technical specialist for medium- size or moderately complex projects
Identifies project risks and issues, advises project leadership and offers mitigated/corrective solutions
May oversee scope, schedule and budget
Coordinates and prepares deliverables
May provide technical guidance over a group or manage and supervise a team and associated resources
May manage efforts from prospect to deliverable
Serves as technical expert
Serves as team leader
Evaluates tools and processes
Develops or modifies processes and systems as needed
Benchmarks, recommends and develops improved tools and processes
Recognized within the company as having in-depth knowledge within technical and policy area

Required

Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field or equivalent experience
Typically 15 or more years in environmental science related field for Principal Environmental Science Specialist
Typically ten or more years in environmental science related field for Senior Environmental Science Specialist
Professional registration/certification preferred; may be required based upon role
Extensive knowledge of Federal and Oregon air regulations that impact electric utility operations
Project/specialty areas and operations, including interdependencies
Assigned technical area's processes and procedures
Related technical content interpretation
Electric utility industry and technology knowledge trends
Company QA/QC process and procedures
Industry rules and regulations and regulatory development processes
