Responsibilities
Demonstrates a high level of competency in performing all Laboratory Assistant duties that are relevant to the assigned location
May instruct patients and health care staff in proper specimen collection and handling methods
Creates laboratory order entry consistent with established procedures
Prepares patient specimens for laboratory testing with emphasis on the pre-analytic and post-analytic processes
Investigates and resolves problems associated with requests for testing, customer billing and reporting
Seeks information as needed from information systems, members of the laboratory staff, and other sources
Within established parameters, and with appropriate competency training and supervisor approval, may perform CLIA waived tests
Following successful completion of competency assessment, may perform specimen processing, testing, and reporting without direct supervision
Qualification
Required
High school graduate or equivalent
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate clearly
Demonstrated reliability and a self-starter
Demonstrates a high level of competency in performing all Laboratory Assistant duties that are relevant to the assigned location
Must be competent and experienced in pre-analytic specimen activities to include the effective teaching and mentoring of others
Preferred
Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory services is desirable
