Responsibilities
Data entry and labeling specimen bottles
Fill blocks and slides, dump dated specimens, and prepare slides for microtomy; train new staff on laboratory procedures
Perform daily grossing of tissue samples including proper identification and measurement of each case; timely loading of all cassettes into the tissue processor and prepare daily specimen log
Embed tissue samples, perform microtomy on regular, deeper sections, control sections and other requests for special stains and immunohistochemistry
Prepare slides for special stains like PAS, GMS and Trichrome
Check all chemical reagents for validity and expiration
Maintain lab equipment and daily log with quality control results
Aid supervisor and manager in preparing laboratory for CAP and State inspections
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent in education, training and experience required)
Minimum 2 years' of experience in a Histopathology and/or immunohistochemistry lab
Must be able to work independently and accurately in a fast-paced environment, action-oriented environment
Must possess a New York State Department of Education (NYSED) license as Histotechnologist, Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Technician or Pathologist's Assistant
