Post Doctoral Fellow (Lorson Lab)
The University of Missouri-Columbia is a dynamic hub for groundbreaking research, and they are seeking a Post Doctoral Fellow to design and execute experiments related to neuromuscular diseases. The role involves working with molecular and cellular techniques, managing animal models, and contributing to grant writing and manuscript preparation.
Education
Responsibilities
Independently design, optimize, and execute experiments relevant to the mechanisms and therapeutics of SMA, SMARD, and/or CMT
This may involve: Molecular and Cellular Techniques: motor neuron cultures, primary cells; DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and molecular cloning
Animal Models: Managing and performing experiments on relevant mouse or other animal models (e.g., phenotyping, behavioral testing, drug administration, survival studies, surgery, and tissue collection)
Advanced Techniques such as: AAV gene therapy and assessment of various therapeutics on neuromuscular phenotypes; utilizing state-of-the-art methods like single-cell/spatial transcriptomics, proteomics; or advanced microscopy (e.g., confocal, live-cell imaging)
Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous, up-to-date records of all experimental design, procedures, and results in a lab notebook
Data Analysis: Rigorously analyze complex datasets using appropriate statistical and bioinformatics tools
Manuscript Preparation: Lead the writing and revision of manuscripts for submission to high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific journals
Presentation: Prepare and present research findings at weekly lab meetings, departmental seminars, and national/international scientific conferences related to neuromuscular diseases or neuroscience
Grant Writing: Contribute to or lead the preparation of grant proposals (e.g., fellowship applications, foundation grants) to secure independent or collaborative funding
Qualification
Required
Ph.D. degree in neurobiology, molecular genetics, or a related field
Previous experience with animal models or neurodegeneration disease
Benefits
Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental and vision plans, retirement, and educational fee discounts for all four UM System campuses
