Responsibilities

Independently design, optimize, and execute experiments relevant to the mechanisms and therapeutics of SMA, SMARD, and/or CMT
This may involve: Molecular and Cellular Techniques: motor neuron cultures, primary cells; DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and molecular cloning
Animal Models: Managing and performing experiments on relevant mouse or other animal models (e.g., phenotyping, behavioral testing, drug administration, survival studies, surgery, and tissue collection)
Advanced Techniques such as: AAV gene therapy and assessment of various therapeutics on neuromuscular phenotypes; utilizing state-of-the-art methods like single-cell/spatial transcriptomics, proteomics; or advanced microscopy (e.g., confocal, live-cell imaging)
Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous, up-to-date records of all experimental design, procedures, and results in a lab notebook
Data Analysis: Rigorously analyze complex datasets using appropriate statistical and bioinformatics tools
Manuscript Preparation: Lead the writing and revision of manuscripts for submission to high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific journals
Presentation: Prepare and present research findings at weekly lab meetings, departmental seminars, and national/international scientific conferences related to neuromuscular diseases or neuroscience
Grant Writing: Contribute to or lead the preparation of grant proposals (e.g., fellowship applications, foundation grants) to secure independent or collaborative funding

Ph.D. degree in neurobiology, molecular genetics, or a related field
