Senior Civil Engineer

Responsibilities
Leads and manages the Civil Engineering team within MN Custom Homes
Works closely with peers and leaders to integrate and improve civil engineering delivery processes and overall business effectiveness
Coordinates resource allocation and project delivery scheduling with Architecture
Inspires team members to succeed through coaching and continuous feedback in meeting company expectations and metrics
Accountable for the overall Civil Engineering team performance, pacing, and goal achievement
Acts as the primary point of contact for civil engineering
Builds and maintains strong relationships with team members and organizational stakeholders to meet project and business goals
Assists in hiring, trains, develops, coaches, and supervises engineering or other staff completing work in the civil engineering scope
Establishes and implements civil engineering project delivery processes, tools, and standards
Implements integrated site design functionality within the Civil Engineering team for full coordination with other disciplines
Is the Professional of Record for Civil Engineering document submittals to local jurisdictions as required
Assists the Feasibility and Land Acquisition teams evaluating civil engineering risks and scope for new projects
Performs site development design for grading, drainage, sewer, water, erosion control, and road design
Leads the creation of BIM models, standards, and permit submittal documentation for concurrent single-family residential projects in the MN Studio workflow
Implements a technology-forward process for performing civil engineering work in coordination with other MN departments
Plans, schedules, and conducts or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work for projects
Oversees creation of technical reports, routine conveyance calculations, and observation reports
Stays informed and up to date on all standards and best practices in Civil Engineering for residential design, documentation, technical requirements, and construction
Implements best practices as appropriate
Develops and maintains documentation quality and completeness standards in conjunction with MN Studio leadership
Completes design and submittal documentation in compliance with all applicable codes and standards
Develops and maintains forms, reports, templates, standards encompassing all aspects of Civil Engineering
Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
Must possess a Washington State Professional Civil Engineer (P.E.) registration
Other P.E. licenses considered favorably, especially for the state of Arizona
8+ years' post-degree experience in a civil engineering role producing design deliverable documentation for permit submittal required
4+ years' experience with new construction single family residential infill developments
3+ years' experience managing and inspiring a team of Civil Engineers and Drafters
Must be able to use a computer, including keyboard functions and visual acuity of 20 inches or fewer on a daily basis, for 7+hours per day
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on the computer
Must be able to work in an open cube office environment, Monday through Friday, around core business hours of 8 am – 5 pm
Occasional local travel in the larger Seattle and Bellevue areas required
Must have and maintain a valid WA State Driver's license and insurance
Must be willing to use personal vehicle for business travel in return for vehicle stipend or mileage reimbursement depending on the travel requirements
Preferred
Expert knowledge of storm water management techniques and practices, grading, and utility design
Ability to solve problems effectively and pro-actively using creative application of technical expertise and design judgment
Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to effectively multitask and juggle simultaneous demands while remaining flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently with little direction or oversight
Excellent interpersonal as well as verbal and written communication skills
Ability to make reasonable, rational, quick decisions while under pressure and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
Demonstrated ability to be an inspirational leader with high emotional intelligence
Ability to adopt MN processes and standards
